Smoothies and popsicles go hand in hand.

A popsicle filling is very much like asmoothiethat you freeze.

Pretty handy if you have extra smoothies around. You can simply pop the extra smoothie into a popsicle mold and freeze it for another day and boom you’ve made your own popsicles!

The simple steps in making homemade popsicles are as follows.

  • First, blend the popsicle ingredients in ablenderor food processor until smooth.
  • Next, pour into your favorite popsicle molds and freeze!

You’ll want to make sure to have a creamy base in there for smoothness, and so that your popsicle doesn’t turn out icy. I love using yogurt, kefir or coconut milk, or coconut cream for a creamy texture.

The fruit flavors can be totally up to your preference – use your favorite fruits!

If you add anyunrefined natural sweetener in to add more sweetness, like honey or maple syrup, you would simply blend that in with the fruit and creamy liquid as well.

We’re letting the natural fruit flavor shine in these fresh fruit popsicles, and I’d definitely recommend that and not adding much sugar into it.

Chances are you might already have popsicle molds around. They are often available at the grocery stores which makes them super accessible (which is where I bought my favorite popsicle mold).

If you don’t already have some, here are a few great options to check out.

How to get stuck popsicles out of popsicle molds

Once your popsicle is frozen and ready to be enjoyed, the real final step is to get it out of the mold!

Have you ever had trouble getting popsicles out? I sure have. Here’s my trick:

  • Bring the popsicles out of the freezer to room temperature.
  • Place the popsicle base (not the handle) under warm water until the popsicle releases.
  • Try and twist the popsicle as water runs over the base and then it eventually comes out!

Of course, if you use hot water it will release faster, but the popsicle will melt slightly, so cool or warm water is best.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk plain kefir
  • 1 cup frozen mango (or fresh)
  • ½ cup orange juice (freshly squeezed, or not)

Instructions

  • In a blender add the kefir, mangos and orange juice and blend until smooth.

  • Pour into popsicles molds and place in the freezer until frozen solid. ENJOY!

Notes

If you use wood popsicles molds and want more stability as to where you popsicle stick stays, partially freeze the popsicle mixture in the molds for 10-20 minutes, then add the popsicle stick. It will stay in place much easier that way.

Depending on the size of the popsicle molds you use, and if you use already frozen mango, the freeze time can vary.
