Day 11 in Paris saw plenty of medals dished out and more world records fall. It all began in the pool as China continued its dominance in the diving events with Quan Hongchan delivering a fifth gold medal of the Games for her country with victory in the 10m platform. Inside the velodrome, the Netherlands claimed gold in the men’s team sprint, breaking their own world record in the final with a staggering time of 40.949. There was also a new world record set in the speed climbing as the USA’s Sam Watson set a new mark of just 4.75 seconds. It was also another thrilling day on the track as American Gabby Thomas dominated the 200m to win gold, while compatriot Cole Hocker claimed a shock victory in the men’s 1500m.
Today we will see 21 gold medals up for grabs including in the women’s speed climbing event where Poland’s Aleksandra Miroslaw is the overwhelming favorite after twice beating her own world record in qualifying for the final. We will also see a champion crowned in the men’s park final and with four American skaters making up the world’s top five, a gold is likely to go to the USA. Inside the velodrome, the finals of the men’s and women’s team pursuit will take place and don’t be surprised if we see world records tumble. Finally, inside the Stade de France we will see a host of finals taking place but perhaps the biggest event of the day is the 400m men’s final where Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith is one of the favorites for gold.
