Is a user's manual for the ELD is required to be in the vehicle? ›

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), commercial truck drivers are required to keep an ELD information packet onboard, at all times, containing four main documents. Your ELD information packet should first contain an ELD user's manual explaining how the vehicle's ELD operates.

An instruction sheet for the driver describing ELD malfunction reporting requirements and recordkeeping procedures during ELD malfunctions; and. A supply of blank driver's record of duty status (RODS) graph-grids sufficient to record the driver's duty status and other related information for a minimum of 8 days.

ELD Rule Exceptions

As specified in the ELD rule, the following are not required to use ELDs (but carriers may choose to use ELDs even if they are not required): Drivers who use paper logs no more than 8 days during any 30-day period.
