WotLK Classic Blacksmithing Leveling Guide 1-450 (2024)

This WotLK Classic Blacksmithing Leveling Guide will show you the fastest and easiest way to level your Blacksmithing skill up from 1 to 450 in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

I recommend trying Zygor's 1-80 Leveling Guideif you are still leveling your character or you just started a new alt. The guide will help you to reach level 80 a lot faster.

List of Materials Required

Below you can find the list of the approximate materials required to level Blacksmithing to 450.

Classic (1-300)

• 150x Rough Stone
• 150x Copper Bar
• 95x Coarse Stone
• 5x Silver Bar
• 140x Bronze Bar
• 105x Heavy Stone
• 5x Gold Bar
• 230x Iron Bar
• 35x Green Dye - Sold by Tailoring and Leatherworking supply vendors
• 190x Steel Bar - Made from 190Iron Bar+ 190 Coal if you have Mining. The Blacksmithing Supply vendor sells the Coal.
• 10x Citrine
• 315x Solid Stone- If you can't get the Plans: Mithril Spurs from the Auction House, you will only need 120 Solid Stone
• 60x Mageweave Cloth (you will need another 90x if you can't get the Mithril Spurs recipe)
• 150x Mithril Bar (you will need another 90x if you can't get the Mithril Spurs recipe)
• 20x Dense Stone
• 420x Thorium Bar
• 80x Rugged Leather or 10x Star Ruby

TBC (300-350)

• 170x Fel Iron Bar

  40x Rough Sharpening Stone - 40 Rough Stone

• 30 - 65
  55x Rough Grinding Stone - 110 Rough Stone

  Save 10 Rough Grinding Stones.

  25x Coarse Sharpening Stone - 25 Coarse Stone

Journeyman Blacksmithing

Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Blacksmithing. (Requires level 10)

75 - 125

• 75 - 90
  35x Coarse Grinding Stone - 70 Coarse Stone

  Save the Coarse Grinding Stones.

  If you didn't reach 90 by making these, you could continue to the next step, but you will needmore Copper Bars or make a few more Coarse Grinding Stones.

• 90 - 100
  10x Runed Copper Belt - 100 Copper Bar

• 100 - 105
  5x Silver Rod - 5 Silver Bar, 10 Rough Grinding Stone

  You can skip this part and make Runed Copper Belt if you don't have any Silver Bar.

• 105 - 110
  5x Runed Copper Belt - 50 Copper Bar

• 110 - 125
  15x Rough Bronze Leggings - 90 Bronze Bar

Expert Blacksmithing

Visit your trainer and learn Expert Blacksmithing. (Requires level 20)

125 - 225

• 125 - 140
  35x Heavy Grinding Stone - 105 Heavy Stone

  Keep the Heavy Grinding Stones. Make this one up to 150 if Heavy Stone is cheap.

• 140 - 150
  10x Patterned Bronze Bracers - 50 Bronze Bar, 20 Coarse Grinding Stone

• 150 - 155
  5x Golden Rod - 5 Gold Bar, 10 Coarse Grinding Stone

Green Dye is sold by Tailoring and Leatherworking supply vendors.

• 155 - 165
  10x Green Iron Leggings - 80 Iron Bar, 10 Heavy Grinding Stone, 10 Green Dye

• 165 - 190
  25x Green Iron Bracers - 150 Iron Bar, 25 Green Dye

• 190 - 200
  10x Golden Scale Bracers - 50 Steel Bar, 20 Heavy Grinding Stone

  Alliance players should keep 6 of these. You might need them if you choose Armorsmithing.

• 200 - 210
  30x Solid Grinding Stone - 120 Solid Stone

  Keep at least 10 of these for the 225-235 part.

  Keep all of them if you bought the Plans: Mithril Spurs, and you will also have to make another 40. (you can make them later too)

  15x Heavy Mithril Gauntlet - 90 Mithril Bar, 60 Mageweave Cloth

Artisan Blacksmithing

Visit your trainer and learn Artisan Blacksmithing. (Requires level 35)

Blacksmithing Specializations

At Blacksmithing skill 200 and character level 40, you can specialize in Armorsmithing or Weaponsmithing. Choosing one is optional. You don't need it to level Blacksmithing.

Blacksmithing specializations are not as useful in WotLK Classic as they were in Burning Crusade, so choosing a specialization is not that important in WotLK. You can craft every epic level 80 gear without a specialization, so it's entirely optional to choose one. The only benefit you will get is some leveling gear.

  10x Steel Plate Helm - 140 Steel Bar, 10 Citrine, 10 Solid Grinding Stone

  Horde players should keep 4 of these. You might need them if you choose Armorsmithing.

• 235 - 250
  Buy Plans: Mithril Spurs from the Auction House.

  15x Mithril Spurs - 60 Mithril Bar, 45 Solid Grinding Stone

Master Blacksmithing

Learn Master Blacksmithing from one of the trainers below. (Requires level 50)

Both factions can learn it from Barien (The Scryers) or Onodo (The Aldor) in Shattrath City.

  7x Fel Weightstone - 7 Fel Iron Bar, 7 Netherweave Cloth

  You might need to make more of these because you won't gain a skill point for every craft.

• 305 - 316
  11x Fel Iron Plate Belt - 44 Fel Iron Bar

  Make 16x Thorium Leggings up to 321 if 190x Thorium Bar is cheaper than 69x Fel Iron Bar.

• 316 - 321
  5x Fel Iron Chain Gloves - 25 Fel Iron Bar

• 321 - 325
  4x Fel Iron Plate Boots - 24 Fel Iron Bar

• 325 - 335
  45x Lesser Rune of Warding - 45 Adamantite Bar

  It's green for the last 5 points, so 45 is an approximate number. You might need to make more.

• 335 - 340
  7x Fel Iron Chain Tunic - 63 Fel Iron Bar

  You might need to make more because the recipe is yellow.

• 340 - 350
  45x Lesser Ward of Shielding - 45 Adamantite Bar

  The recipe is sold by Rohok (Horde) at Hellfire Peninsula and by Mari Stonehand (Alliance) at Shadowmoon Valley. It's a limited supply item, so you have to wait if someone bought it before you. (15-60min respawn time).

  It's green for the last 5 points, so 45 is an approximate number. You might need to make more or fewer.

WotLK Classic Blacksmithing (350-450)

  10x Cobalt Boots - 40 Cobalt Bar

• 360-370
  10x Cobalt Triangle Shield - 40 Cobalt Bar

• 370-375
  5x Cobalt Legplates - 25 Cobalt Bar

• 375-380
  5x Cobalt Gauntlets - 25 Cobalt Bar

• 380-385
  5x Spiked Cobalt Boots - 35 Cobalt Bar

• 385-390
  5x Spiked Cobalt Shoulders - 35 Cobalt Bar

390 - 416

Reinforced Cobalt Chestpiece can be a good alternative for the 390-416 part. The Plans: Reinforced Cobalt Chestpiece is dropped by Venture Co. Excavators in Sholazar Basin. Don't let Wowhead's drop rate intimidate you. It's higher than that, but still, it can take 20-30 minutes to get it.

Required materials for 390-416:

You can decide for yourself if the recipe is worth farming for you.

416 - 425

13x Eternal Belt Buckle - 52 Saronite Bar, 13 Eternal Earth, 13 Eternal Water, 13 Eternal Shadow

There are cheaper alternative recipes that you can make, but Eternal Belt Buckle is a very useful item, so you can sell all of them and get most of your gold back.

The recipe will be yellow for the last 5 points, so you might have to make more.

425 - 430

7x Titanium Weapon Chain - 14 Saronite Bar, 7 Titanium Bar

The recipe will be yellow, so you might have to make more.

430 - 445

23x Daunting Legplates - 322 Saronite Bar, 23 Eternal Earth

This recipe will be yellow between 435-445, so you probably have to make more than 20, usually 23-25. You can also make any other armor that requires 14x Saronite Bar and 1x Eternal Water/Fire/Shadow, but Eternal Earth is usually the cheapest.

You can already start crafting the Titansteel epic armors and weapons at 440if you want to start selling them at the Auction House, but these legplates are much cheaper to make if you just simply want to reach 450 and don't want to bother selling stuff.

445 - 450

17x Daunting Legplates - 238 Saronite Bar, 17 Eternal Earth

You will still be making the Daunting Legplates, but the recipe will be green, which means the number of items crafted will vary from person to person. I never had to craft more than 17, but you might get unlucky with skill gains, and you have to craft more.

And like before, you can also make any other armor that requires 14x Saronite Bar and 1x Eternal Water/Fire/Shadow.

Alternative recipes

You can also craft 5 from any of these epic armors and weapons. They cost a lot more gold, but you can sell them at the Auction House
